How to remove a coffee stain from clothes and table linen
Rinse quickly with cold water for fresh stains; for older stains, dissolve the sugar layer first with vinegar.
A brown ring from a knocked-over mug, often with a rim of milk and sugar in it.
Stap voor stap
- 1
Rinse the back of the stain under a cold tap as soon as possible so the coffee is pushed out of the fibres, not deeper into them.
- 2
Mix 1 tablespoon of dish soap + 1 tablespoon of white vinegar into half a glass of lukewarm water and dab the stain from the outside in.
- 3
Let it soak for 10 minutes; for an older stain, sprinkle a layer of baking soda over the damp spot and leave for 30 minutes.
- 4
Rinse with cold water and check whether the stain is gone (wet does not always mean clean).
- 5
Wash at 40°C or higher with a good detergent; check again before the dryer, since heat sets the tannins.
Never use hot water on a fresh coffee stain with milk, the proteins will coagulate into the fibres.
