Clean your washing machine: how to make it fresh again
One evening to a fresh washer: seal, drum and detergent drawer, no expensive specialty products needed.
A musty smell, black rings in the door seal and laundry that no longer smells truly fresh.
Stap voor stap
- 1
Wipe the rubber door seal all the way around with a cloth dipped in warm water and a splash of vinegar; focus on the bottom fold where water pools.
- 2
Pull out the detergent drawer, soak it for 15 minutes in hot water with vinegar and scrub the slots with an old toothbrush.
- 3
Pour 250 ml of cleaning vinegar into the drum and 2 tablespoons of baking soda into the detergent drawer.
- 4
Run an empty hot cycle (90°C) with no laundry; the combination dissolves limescale, soap residue and biofilm.
- 5
When it finishes, leave the door and drawer ajar so everything dries; repeat this maintenance every 1-2 months.
Do not pre-mix vinegar and baking soda in one container, they neutralise each other. Add them separately to the drum and drawer.
